The Village of the Monal

The Monal is one of the finest examples of mountains in Tarentaise, in front of the Mt Pourri glaciers, Monal tightens its traditional chalets around its chapel; true enchantment for the eyes!

Walking from the station of Sainte Foy in Tarentaise by a forest trail, you can easily reach the classified site of the Monal – this hamlet is composed of chalets, mountaineers, having preserved all their authenticity of the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries – The natural environment of stone and wood is found entirely in the mode of construction, and the water is also richly present in the streams which wind between the houses.

“THE MONAL” is still an unsolved toponym to this day, despite the mnemonic writings. This mystery is accentuated moreover, a little more by the mystical impression, which emerges from these places timeless.

With a slight elevation, and without any difficulty, this little hike is accessible to all, so do not miss this little corner of paradise, to discover absolutely!
You can also continue beyond the Monal: valley of Clou, Lac du Clou (2,373 m), Col du Rocher Blanc (2,833 m), Black lake (2,618 m), Lac Blanc (2,850 m). .

Getting there: From Bourg-Saint-Maurice, take the D 902 towards Val d’Isère. Pass Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, then La Thuile. At the place called “les Pigettes”, take on the left the road in laces that goes up to the parking of the Channel.
